Clatsop County has long been one of the archetypical Pacific Northwestern Democratic counties. While the area has trended rightwards, Biden still won the county handily. Democratic margins in Astoria, Seaside, and Cannon Beach have helped the county stay securely in the Democratic column federally

Hood River County is a hippie-esque county that sits along the Columbia river to the east of Portland. Accordingly, it votes heavily Democratic, with Biden winning the county by over 37 points. Currently, the county sits in a Republican-held state house district, and it'll be a race to watch in 2024

Jackson County OR is rich with natural scenery, and one of the larger traditionally Republican dominated counties in the state. Despite this, Trump only managed to win the county by about 3.5 points. Biden's main sources of strength were uber-liberal Ashland, and the county seat of Medford. The rurals in the north of the county kept it in the Republican column


Tillamook County is well known for its dairy, tourism, and political competitiveness. Trump only narrowly won the county in 2020 by 1.76 points, and the county also likely decided a state legislative race. The ocean adjacent areas tend to vote much more Democratic than inland and the city of Tillamook itself

OR-05 was a seat that Democrats held prior to 2022, but overplaying their hand in redistricting cost them this Biden+9 district. The seat is comprised of some of the Portland metro, Bend, and a decent amount of denser rural turf in between. This is a top Democratic target to flip in 2024, and develop a strategy to hold beyond that. The Bend/Deschutes portion of the district may also prove critical to maintaining state legislative control

Oregon Democrats are likely to target HD 52 with a vengance in 2024. This seat contains all of Hood River County, and portions of Wasco, Multnomah, and Clackamas. Biden carried the seat by almost 10 points in 2020, but a Republican still carried it in 2022. The area is going to see a lot of Democratic investment, and will likely flip with the addition of Biden at the top of the ticket
